Egyptian Artifacts

Everything photographed was from the Egyptian Funerary and Arts sections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Egyptian art and history has always been an interest of mine, and I felt like I was in heaven at this part of the museum. I could have stayed for a week, just admiring and photographing the Egyptian art!

This first image is a very large, outer sarcophagus. It stood about 7-8 feet tall, and was about 3.5 to 4 feet wide at the largest point. It seemed larger than life when you were standing right in front of it. There were hieroglyphics inscribed all on the front and sides. The condition of this piece was excellent, and looked like it had very minimal damage.

This was a series of 3 sarcophaguses for the mummy (in front). You can see that each sarcophagus is gradually larger in size. The mummy was placed in the smallest (second from the front), then in the middle size (3rd from the front), and finally in the wooden sarcophagus (back).

A section from The Book of the Dead, which was buried with the mummified bodies after their death.

The picture size here doesn't do justice for the exquisite details on this funerary ornamentation.

Forgive the image quality on this, it was taken with my cell phone camera. This was the overflowing/flooding of the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg, PA. Taken Sept 2006.

I plan on going back and getting some more architecture images later this month.
